Overcoming Drinking Water Distribution & Quality Challenges with the Smart Ayyeka Solution

September 29, 2021

Operations Manager Dot at the local water utility is responsible for ensuring clean water flows from everyone’s faucets.

But the water system she manages uses very old infrastructure. Water main bursts disrupt service regularly and leaky pipes waste hundreds of gallons of treated drinking water daily. Dot also fears the old pipes may be corroding and polluting the drinking water. With hundreds of miles of water mains, there’s no way for Dot to know what’s happening until something big goes wrong.

To gain visibility in every remote part of the water distribution system, Dot deploys the Ayyeka solution. This IIoT solution is flexible, with multiple sensors connecting to one Ayyeka device. Compatible with any sensor, the Ayyeka device can monitor both water pressure – to detect leaks – and water quality, as well as data from any other sensor. The data from all the sensors are transmitted by the device in the field to the software platform in the office.

If there is an irregularity – pressure or water quality is off – Dot receives an immediate notification. If there are water pressure changes, Dot can send a team to detect and repair a leak. If contaminants are detected in the water, Dot can shut off water to that area before residents drink polluted water.

The data collected in the software platform also gives Dot the network knowledge she needs to implement better operational routines and improve decision-making processes.
