| In 1998, The Ford Meter
Box Company celebrated its 100th anniversary. |
| The history of Ford
Meter Box is comprised of the products produced and the people |
| who designed and built
these products. The Ford archives are filled with photos |
| and documents that tell
the Ford Meter Box story. |
|
| On rare occasions, a piece of Ford
history |
 |
| surfaces. Such was the case of a
forgotten |
| Ford Test Bench we are pleased
to |
| feature in this Meter Setter. |
|
| This "lost" bench is circa
1915. |
| It was discovered, still in working
condition, |
| a couple of years ago. The bench had
been |
| carefully reconditioned and
modernized |
| during the late 1960's. Updates to
the bench |
| included new calibrated tanks. |
| The original set-up featured a
riveted boiler |
| plate tank. Another modernization
was the |
| addition of a testerate flow
indicator. |
| The early Ford Test Bench used
a |
| manually adjusted venturi restrictor |
| plate to control flow. |
|
| Through the aid of drawings, photos,
and |
1915 Model 4A Test Bench |
| other historical
documents, the test bench was completely dismantled, cleaned, |
| repainted, and
rebuilt. Reconstruction was as faithful as possible to the original
design. |
| This fine antique test
bench is now on display in the Ford Meter Box corporate office. |
